It was CRAZY! It was RICH! And it was all PERANAKAN! The Crazy Rich Peranakans - PPBNKLS Dinner & Dance 2023 did not disappoint!!! The minute we started event before 6pm, the mini bazaar was buzzing with excitement.. from kebayas and kerosangs to T-shirts and perfumes, artwork and kueh tair… everyone had their share of a shopping spree moment!! And that fabulous photo corner was a great hit! Ala ala in the living room of a Peranakan house! Thanks to our mastermind Vivienne and Kessy. We served kueh kueh including some very scrumptious kueh tair, rempeyek, bangkit and kapit! The bell rang at 7.15pm for everyone to head into the banquet hall… took us a good 15mins to drag everyone into the hall … can’t stop shopping!!! Ok… then once inside, our emcees Bibik Lan Neo and Bibik Chap Neo had everyone mesmerised with their charm, wit, humour and larger than life presence!!! A quick welcome speech by our Madam President inspiring many of our non member guests to sign up to become PPBNKLS members , Peranakans or not!!! Then the first course arrived at our tables…. Small chatter can be heard, melodious music in the background compiled by Baba Chee Hood Sin, everyone behaving themselves until the second course hit the tables… The band, Sweet Memories got up to start their first set (unknowing to them.. they will be playing almost non stop till we get kicked out!!) And oh boy… the dance floor was filled as soon as the first few notes hit the hall… and as though they all had magnets on their feet pulling them onto the dance floor… the hall was electrifying and the gelek-gelek started! Photos will tell all, so here are some of the evening. Official photos will come later. To those who came and helped us make this a night to remember, kamsiah! To those who couldn’t make it, we hope to see you at our next event! (Written by Nyonya Celia Yeo)
